For those who love adventure, the new “Alice in Wonderland” movie will not disappoint. It is full of action and happenings that get “curiouser and curiouser.” Keep in mind that this is a movie based on “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland,” a novel by Lewis Carroll. It takes place when Alice is not a little girl, but a young woman about to be engaged. The movie has an Alice returns to Wonderland plot, and because she is older, the material is slightly more mature.

The movie begins with Alice as a little girl, awaking from strange dreams and rushing to be comforted by her father. The scene then skips ahead 13 years, and Alice is on her way to becoming engaged to a man she doesn’t love but must marry because it is in her mother’s best interests. Before such binding promises can be made, Alice decides to pursue the white rabbit that she has been seeing around the garden. She falls down the rabbit hole, landing in a room full of doors--one of which leads to Wonderland. Alice is actually brought back to Wonderland in order to save it from the evil Red Queen’s rule and restore power to her younger sister, the White Queen. But in order to do this she must slay the evil Jabberwocky, the Red Queen’s terrifying dragon. Before Alice can become the White Queen’s warrior, there are several perils she must face.

Watching the movie in 3D will enhance your movie experience, but it is not necessary. There is plenty of eye candy to go around. Most of the movie is animated, so the background is vibrant in color and texture. All of the original characters from the novel are present in the movie: the Mad Hatter, the Cheshire Cat, the March Hare, Dormouse, the White Rabbit, Dodo, Tweedledee and Tweedledum and Absolem the Caterpillar. There are some new characters as well. The movie contains all the elements from the original novel that fans old and young can appreciate. No matter who sees it, the movie has a way of capturing your imagination and pulling you down into the rabbit hole, making you “mad” for more.
