Latinitas was thrilled to receive "Grant for Technology Opportunities Program" (GTOPs) award from the City of Austin for its 2010-2011 program year.  Latinitas will be introducing more STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) activities into their digital media after school programming and will invite STEM professionals and college students to speak at its 20 clubs in Central Texas. GTOPs provides money to Austin organizations and citizen's groups for a broad array of citizen driven technology and literacy access programs.

Club Latinitas Recap

Cooking shows, Latina icon research and stop-motion film making were just a few Spring activities in Club Latinitas.  "La Chica Cocinita" was produced nearly 10 times at multiple Central Texas schools as a food show production exercise.  "The Food Network has multiple 'Mexican' or 'Latino' cuisine experts, yet none of them are Latino, themselves.  The lesson not only teaches the fundamentals of creating a 30 minute show, but also provided a healthy recipe for Latino families," says Latinitas' club leader and activity author Leslie Guerrero.  The shows can be viewed on Latinitas' YouTube channel.
